OUR STORY

It's 1993 and I'm looking for a lad with whom I can play Irish music.  I put an add in The Recycler.  Dubliner Pearse Kelly answers.  He's the only one who answers.  We go through several names including The Men of Tara.  We have a band.

We played more than a few gigs  and eventually realized that one or two extra band members would be nice.

First came Tommy Conway, an Irishman from New York with Mayo roots and a very good friend to this day.  Next came Dave the Piddler (or Dave the Fiddler) who was deaf in one ear.  It was a slight problem at gigs when we had to decide which of us was going to be on his deaf side.  Then came my brother Sean.   Remember the brothers from the band Oasis always fighting?   Let's just say that I am Liam and he's Noel.   Enough said....  This is when our band's name came in to question, and what comes next is a matter of argument that only Pearse and Sean know the truth to...  John Chamberlin, a producer whose credits include our third recording, was playing drums for The Nackers at the time.  He still plays for us every five years or so.

A few years later we had a steady band membership going with me, Pearse, Brian Quigley (RIP) â€‹â€‹on guitar, and the great Tim Williams â€‹on drums.  And Pearse's brother-in-law, Felix, was the Latin influence of our band (the Latin influence? I know...Felix, perdoname).  It was among this period in the life of The Nackers  that we put out our first two recordings: Bound for Ireland and A Little Travelling Music, Please.  When Brian quit, we had found a future longtime member, Rob Poulin who switched between guitar and bass with his long, flowing, gorgeous hair and his tight butt.

Then we all got sick of eachother and the band's future came into question, but eventually, we came to our senses after five or ten drinks.

The band came to a solid membership with Pearse, Rob, Kyle (me:) ), and a drummer that Rob  brought in named John Murphy with a bad attitude and an unyielding way of playing the skins.  Rob and John used to play in an ACDC cover band that was very popular in the Eastern US.  That is, Rhode Island.  A very specific part of Rhode Island.  Fresno could kick its ass in a war.

This is when we came out with our latest (but not our last) recording, Roolya Boolya.  It was a great success.  In our neigfhbrhood.

Then we get to the modern era.  You remember Tim Wiliams?  He blessed us with his presence once again.  We met Pat Mitchell who came to us by way of John Murphy and Rob Poulin--a solid, nice guy who plays a mean bass and lools like he can kick anybody's ass (did I say that?), but really he's a pussy cat.  Mary Barton and I had been playing gigs together for years, and I finally got her to play with The Nackers.  She is a vilionist extraordinaire.  Amanda Johnson and Will Vargas played with us for  a while,  but no  more.   Jas Hilsdon (who played with us in 2014 before moving to Connecticut) moved back  to California.  We're  very pleased to announce he joined us again!!  So that's it. Kyle, Tim, Pat, Mary and Jas!!!!
